Multitasking on a daily baisis - Jak Lowdon
Hello Jak!
People says, only women can multitask on a daily basis, but this time we are talking with Jak Lowdon a father, a husband and also a model about his life, time and how does a "model life" looks from the inside.
You are modeling now more than 10 years, right? How did you came to this industry? Was it your own wish or somebody scouted you? Could you describe modeling as dream job?
Yes I've been modelling for 10 years. Everything started when I got asked to do a photo shoot off one of my sister's friends (who is a really good photographer called Richard Moran) when I was at my sister's engagement party. I was pretty reluctant to do it but my sister persuaded me into doing it. After I did the shoot I got signed up to a local model agency called Tyne Tees models. After being with Tyne Tees for a couple of years which was a great experience I signed up to Colours agency in Glasgow which became my mother agency and developed me into the model I am today and placed me with agencies all around the world. Which I am forever grateful for.
In fashion world it's not a common situation to be married, to be a father and still keep modeling, how do you handle all of this? Because we all know how looks typical life of a model - all the time traveling, new people, huge competition and stress, etc...
I think being married and having a family whilst being a model has kept me very grounded. I am naturally a grounded person and never take anything for granted. Traveling with work and being away can be difficult sometimes but coming home to my family is the best feeling ever.
For you as a model what is the most important on the set? Have you ever had super uncomfortable situations with photographers or stylists?
I think it's important to get on and relate to everyone whilst being of set. Everyone has a job to do. Creating great imagery is definitely a team effort. having a connection with the photographer is always really beneficial as it makes the work easier and the shots better. Thankfully I haven't had many uncomfortable situation on set.
What was the best shooting in which you had chance to participate?
I've been lucky enough to participate in quite a few amazing shoots, but I think shooting up in the mountains of Slovenia stays with me. The place was amazing and the people there were so friendly. I also enjoyed shooting for Marks and Spencer at Spring studio in London.
For me modeling has some similarities with acting, because all the time you have to adapt to a different moods, work with different teams, feel the vibe’, so have you ever thought to try acting?
I've done a little acting for some commercials which I greatly enjoyed doing it. I do think acting and modelling is very similar at times, you just have to remember that camera is always rolling when acting! I would definitely be up for more acting work in the future.
You said you love to stay outdoors, so how does your usual day looks like?
A usual day for me starts with getting the kids ready for the day, depending on what day it is (if I'm not dropping them off at school) we love to plan to get outdoors. Up to the coast paddling boarding or up in the hills walking/running. There is something about being outdoors which really inspires me.
What are the 5 positive things in the modeling industry for you? What do you value in this job?
I can be super strict here. First huge plus is to meet new people all the time, after that follows travelling, thirdly- learning about this industry and in the same time you get to know more about yourself. Then I could say it is a confidence and creativity building.
You have traveled all around the world, did you find the place where do you feel that is totally your place and you would like to stay there forever?
I really enjoy travelling around the world modelling but you can't beat coming back home to Northumberland. I have a real sense of pride living where I live and watching my children grow up. I been privileged to go to a lot of places. I really liked Sweden, South of France, Slovenia, Sicily to name a few but I'm really happy where I live now.
What do you think about you kids future? How would you react if they also would like to try modeling? Usual parents prefer that their kids don’t put the feet in the same place...
It's a tricky question because I know how hard the industry is but I also know how rewarding it can be. I have a boy and a girl. Who have both done a fair bit of children's modelling. And I think that the male modelling industry is a fair bit different to the female industry. But if they are happy and really want to have a go at doing it I will support/guide them as much as I can.
